Hello All-
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I know I did. I love stuffing and sweet potatoes the most.
This is the season which we are to prepare ourselves for Christ's coming at Christmas. This is the perfect time to begin prayer more regularly, to read your Bible, and to come to church for mass.
It is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There are a lot of complex words in that last sentence, let's break it down.
"Solemnity" is a kind of celebration. Perhaps we can think about it this way, compare the celebrations of a wedding with a 28th birthday. For a wedding, we have many more traditions. We invite all our friends and relatives. We proclaim our wedding to everyone we meet. Think about our 28th birthday. Perhaps we may go out and celebrate with a few close friends, but it is not (usually) the same as our wedding. For solemnities, we are asked to come together to worship God in church for a special reason. In the dictionary, "Immaculate" means without spot or stain. The Immaculate Conception means when Mary first conceived Jesus in her womb. We celebrate this once a year on December 8th. I hope to see you all there.
Thank you all- See you tomorrow!
Br. Adam Zawadzki OP Miss.
We had two events last week. We had the DAW celebration (Deaf Awareness Week) on Saturday. Then we had our Thanksgiving celebration on Sunday. We did not remember to take our cameras to DAW. :-( However, we did remember our cameras on Sunday for our Thanksgiving celebration. Here are a few of the pictures of that event to the right.
Last week, Deacon Bob preached about getting out our Bibles to actually read them. He called us to pray and to attend mass. I also encourage you all to not only attend mass, but help and volunteer in things like readers, Eucharistic Ministers, and the Choir. The new advisory board includes all of you. Each person has the opportunity to help us to know what you want. We are trying to establish programs for you. Please, get involved, pray, and read your Bible. Ask God for help. God will help you if (and when) you ask.
Returning back to our announcements: there is a chance that some people will not have the money to go. If you would like to donate $1, $2, $10, or $13 specifically to help some people who cannot afford to be with the parish community, that will be noticed by God. This is the Christmas season, the season of giving and of love. If you would like to make this kind of donation for the general group, please see me after mass or let me know somehow.
If you know of anyone else who would appreciate this email, please feel free to forward it and encourage them to email this address with their name and email address with “Add to Newsletter” in the subject.
